Issues

As Christians who seek to impact our community, city, state and nation, the Community Impact Team has identified the following values and issues that we believe are relevant to our lives:

Abortion

Psalms 139:13-16 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, {And} skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.

Authority

I Timothy 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties {and} prayers, petitions {and} thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Romans 13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

Character/Integrity

Psalms 29:2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan.

Psalms 29:4 The king gives stability to the land by justice, But a man who takes bribes overthrows it.

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Economics (love of money)

I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Homosexuality

I Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor {the} covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.

Marriage

Genesis 2:22-24 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Matthew 19:46 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,‘” and said, “for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh,”? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Poor

Proverbs 19:17; 21:13 One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, And He will repay him for his good deed; He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be answered.

James 2:14-17 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Welfare

II Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Widows/Orphans

James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of {our} God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, {and} to keep oneself unstained by the world.
