SOD - Sunday Nights (6:00-7:45 PM)

Main Course - "Spiritual Warfare"
On March 30 we began a new main course on Sunday nights on the subject of Spiritual Warfare. The need for this subject was underscored for me as I learned about the weekly “online classroom” Oprah Winfrey has started. The course is a companion to her Book Club book “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” by Eckhart Tolle. Believing this book will be read by many people and knowing something of its author, I purchased a copy to review. As I suspected, it is overt New Age teaching, and I believe it will be a prominent strategy of the devil in the days ahead. I believe it is an example of what Paul warned about in 1 Timothy 4:1, that in the last days people will be “paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.” As Eastern Mysticism makes further inroads in the western world, I believe we are going to see far more overt demonic activity in America than ever before. I share this not to elicit fear, but to promote preparation. Not only are we in danger of ignoring Satan and his strategies, we can also succumb to imbalanced overreaction. As always, the Scriptures hold the answers.

For the rest of this spring, we’ll use Sunday nights to study and discuss what God’s Word has to say about the devil and his attacks. I’ll be writing the study in the same format as the Following God Bible studies, so that participants can dig into the Scriptures themselves. I’ll provide questions for guided discussion so we can interact together around the tables at 6:00 PM and learn from each other. At 7:00 Mike Bower, Kelly O’Rear and I have formed a teaching team to bring a complimentary message for the week’s study. Class meets in the Gymnasium.
